The Battle At Lake Changjin is set to become the China's highest grossing film ever
A Chinese state-backed propaganda epic "The Battle at Lake Changjin" is on track to become the country's highest grossing movie of all time. The film which depicts the defeat of US troops hit Chinese cinemas on September 30, has made $769 million to date as per data from the consultancy Artisan Gateway. The film which is loosely based on the Battle of Chosin Reservoir glorifies Chinese sacrifices and heroism
against U.S. forces during the Korean War.
With the overtly nationalistic tone "The Battle At Lake Changjin" is in tune with China’s recent blockbuster output, and it’s believed to be China’s most expensive film ever made. The film is directed by Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark and Dante Lam. It was written by Lan Xiaolong and Huang Jianxin, produced by Yu Dong, and stars Wu Jing and Jackson Yee.
Since, the Chinese box office is the biggest in the world, the movie "The Battle at Lake Changjin" currently is the biggest film in the world.
The state-funded movie coincided with a contrived effort by Beijing to provoke up nationalist sentiment on what is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. It is also good news for the country's pandemic-hit film sector as Covid forced cinemas to shut and reopen multiple times.
